Mrs. Jerry and Dr. Elton Hendricks enjoyed each day of the 27 years Elton served as president of Methodist University. Their favorite moments included hosting students in their home for meals and lively discussion - on moral dilemmas, world events, and how students might make their own marks on the world. These experiences reinforced for the Hendricks's, again and again, the value of a Methodist University education.

Jerry and Elton both relied on financial aid to earn their college degrees. Jerry received a scholarship from the rural South Carolina textile plant where her mother worked. After graduating, she had a long career as a public-school teacher. Elton benefitted from numerous scholarships on his educational journey from undergraduate through graduate and doctoral degree programs.

Jerry and Elton have created an endowed scholarship so more students have the educational opportunities they did. In their own words: "Many students would benefit from a Methodist University education and work toward a 'greater good' in our world, but students often lack the financial resources to attend Methodist. We hope our endowed scholarship will expose future generations to the transformative experience a Methodist University education provides."
